Is the Samsung S8300 (aka the Samsung Tocco Ultra), just an upgraded version of Samsung F480 (aka the Samsung Tocco) or is there more to it than that?
Published just about a year apart (the Tocco in May 2008, the Ultra Tocoo in March 2009), both devices are smartphones and 3G HSDPA capable network EDGE AT & T with 7.2 Mbps network connectivity.
The Tocco is squatters (shorter and wider) than the Ultra Tocco larger and thinner, 98.4 mm x 55 mm x 11.6 mm against 110 mm x 51.5 mm x 12.7 mm. The difference in weight between the two is negligible 4.4 grams, with Tocco weighing 100.6 grams Ultra Tocco and weighing 105 g.
The Samsung F480 (Tocco on) sports a TFT resistive touch screen with resolution 240 x 320 pixels and is capable of 256,000 colors while the Samsung S8300 (Ultra Tocco) has an AMOLED capacitive touch screen with resolution 240 x 400 pixels and is capable of 16 million color. Display both devices' screens are 2.8 inches.
The Ultra Screen Tocco also has some characteristics of its predecessor did not – namely a scratch-resistant surface, an accelerometer sensor which views change from portrait to landscape depending on how you rotate the phone, and a proximity sensor to turn off automated control.
The Tocco directory can store up 1000 entries while his successor, can store up to 2,000 people. And while the Tocco a photo call, the Ultra Tocco has that contact and photo.

In terms of general features, the Tocco does not have GPS, while the Ultra Tocco has a GPS with A-GPS support. Neither device has Wi-Fi, but both have Bluetooth with A2DP – The Tocco have v2.0 Ultra Tocco have v2.1. Both devices also have a USB v2.0, although the Ultra Tocco also microUSB. And that the device has a FM radio tuner RDS, though the Ultra Tocco also has FM recording capabilities. Neither device has an infrared port.
The Tocco is available in black, brown, gold, pink and silver. Ultra Tocco comes in red or blue. But the color should not be your final factor in deciding between these two devices. The simple fact is the Samsung Tocco is great, but the Samsung Tocco Ultra is even greater. They may not look completely different from the same phone model, but when it comes to the bottom of things, the S8300 is very much an F480 level.
